Died 1798, Leesville, Lexington, SC age 54
General Notes: Known as Jacob.
Jacob Folmar served as a lieutenant and later as a captain in Colonel Philemon Water's
regiment in the South Carolina militia during the Revolutionary War. According to family
tradition, he fought at Camden and Cowpens.
After the war, between 1787 and 1789, Jacob purchased 652 acres of land in Dutch Fork. In
1792 he was named a road commissioner in Lexington County.
After the War he settled in the Macedonia Lutheran Church area of the Dutch Fork of Lexington
County, SC. He obtained several early state land grants in this area and owned part of the 400
acre land grant of Wendel Shealy. This area is the site of the Fulmer Family Cemetery (Lake
Murray Option No. 563, Lake Murray Records). This cemetery is located at the edge of Lake
Murray at the end of R. B. Baker Road.
Noted events in his life were:
• He served in the military Revolutionary War. Jacob Fulmer was Captain of a Dutch Fork militia
unit in 1781 and 1782 under Col. Philemon Waters during the Revolutionary War.
Per Sons of the American Revolution Records, Johann Jacob is Patriot Number 568108.
Johann married Anna Maria Agnes "Nancy" Leitze (or Leuze) about 1760 in Lexington, South
Carolina. Nancy was born on 8 Dec 1743 in Germany and died in 1801 in Dutch Fork, Richland,
South Carolina at age 58. She was usually called Nancy.

Maria Schuler, was born on 8 Dec 1743 in Germany and died in 1801 in Dutch Fork, Richland, South
Carolina at age 58. She was usually called Nancy.

General Notes: A popular tradition is that Jacob Fulmer married an Indian maiden named Nancy
Lightfoot. However, it was passed down by Mary Ann Amick Alewine, a granddaughter of Capt.
Jacob Fulmer, that the wife of Capt. Jacob Fulmer was Nancy Leitze. Nancy Leitze was born
Anna Maria Agnes Leuze on 8 December 1743, the daughter of Jacob Leuze and Anna Maria
Schuler. Nancy was a common name used for Agnes. The Leuze (or Leitze) family had come to
SC in 1749 from Eningen unter Achalm, Württemberg, Germany, and settled in the St. John’s
Lutheran Church area of the Dutch Fork. As Mary Litecey, she obtained a 100 acre land grant in
1774 in the Macedonia Lutheran Church area near the Saluda River. Later surveys and deeds
indicate her grant as land of Jacob Fulmer.
Nancy married Johann Jacob Vollmer about 1760 in Lexington, South Carolina. Johann was born
on 21 Jan 1744 in Unterhausen, Schwarzwaldkreis, Germany and died about 1798 in Lexington,
South Carolina about age 54.
